Shawdesh Desk: Awami League (AL) candidates for two Dhaka city corporation mayoral elections Barrister Fazle Noor Taposh and Md Atiqul Islam submitted their nomination papers to the returning officers on Tuesday.

Fazle Noor Taposh submitted his nomination form to returning officer of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Md Abdul Baten while Atiqul Islam submitted his nomination form to returning officer of the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Abul Kashem this noon.

Taposh accompanied by AL leaders went to the DSCC returning officer’s office at city’s Gopibagh at noon and submitted the nomination paper to contest the DSCC mayoral polls slated for January 30, 2020.
AL presidium members Abdur Rahman, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, joint secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, organising secretary Mirza Azam and Jubo League president Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash were present during the submission.

Meanwhile, Atiqul Islam accompanied by AL and businesses leaders went to the DNCC returning officer’s office at noon and submitted the nomination paper to contest the DNCC mayoral polls to be held on January 30, 2020.

Dhaka north city AL president Sheikh Bazlur Rahman and general secretary S A Mannan Kachi and Bangladesh Football Federation president Kazi Salauddin were present.

According to the Election Commission (EC), December 31 is the last date for submission of nomination papers and the last date for withdrawal of candidacy is January 9.

The EC will scrutinise nomination papers on January 2.
